DroidDeck Steam not launching: setup checks

Start with GPU support, the Linux runtime, and Restrict child processes. Steam also needs to download its client during the first launch.

Step by step

  1. Confirm hardware support

Check Android 9 or newer and your exact GPU against the official requirements. Unsupported GPUs are not fixed by reinstalling the APK.

  2. Check runtime installation

Open DroidDeck Setup and confirm the Linux runtime installation has completed.

  3. Check child processes

Turn OFF Restrict child processes, or complete Fix it for me if Android does not expose the toggle.

  4. Retry on a working connection

Press Play and allow the first Steam client download to complete. If your network blocks Steam hosts, try another permitted connection.

  5. Collect the session logs

If Steam still does not open, use Share logs in Setup or the session drawer and include your device, Android version, GPU, and DroidDeck version in a project support report.

Symptom: Play does not reach Steam

You press Play but Steam never becomes visible, or the session returns to DroidDeck. The same visible symptom can come from incomplete setup, Android stopping child processes, unsupported graphics hardware, or an interrupted first-run download.

Cause: a required setup step is missing

Requires Android 9 or newer. No root needed. Check the exact GPU, confirm the Linux runtime finished installing, and make sure Restrict child processes is OFF before trying Steam again.

On devices without the toggle, finish Fix it for me instead of skipping the step.

Cause: the first download cannot complete

The Steam client downloads itself on first launch. A community issue reports an immediate return to the launcher when a network resets connections to Steam download hosts. That report describes one failure case rather than proving the cause of every startup problem.

Try a connection you control that permits Steam downloads. If the problem remains, capture Share logs and report the device, app version, and exact failure sequence to the project.
