Turn off Restrict child processes for DroidDeck

Before first Steam launch, turn OFF Restrict child processes. If the toggle is missing, DroidDeck offers a Fix it for me button.

Step by step

  1. Open Developer options

Enable Developer options if needed, then open it in Android Settings. The menu location varies by manufacturer.

  2. Disable the restriction

Find Restrict child processes and turn it OFF. Return to DroidDeck after changing it.

  3. Use the in-app fallback if needed

If Android does not expose the toggle, select Fix it for me in DroidDeck and follow its wireless debugging and pairing instructions.

  4. Try the Steam session again

Return to DroidDeck and press Play. If the session still closes, check runtime readiness, your GPU, and the network, then collect Share logs for support.

Why this setting matters

DroidDeck starts a Linux runtime and several processes to run the Steam session. Android's child-process restriction can interrupt that session. A quick return to the launcher, sometimes without a useful visible error, makes this one of the first settings to check.

A similar symptom can have other causes. If this setting is already off, continue with the startup troubleshooting guide rather than repeatedly reinstalling the app.

When the toggle is missing

Many Android 12/13 devices do not show Restrict child processes in Developer options. The app's Fix it for me flow uses wireless ADB pairing to apply the setting. Follow its pairing screen rather than using unrelated APKs or scripts.

The pairing address and connection address can use different ports. Enter the values displayed by Android into the corresponding fields in DroidDeck.

Check again after system changes

If Steam starts failing after an Android update or a settings reset, check the restriction again. Manufacturer menus differ, so use Settings search or the device maker's instructions to find Developer options.
